You can now consult Dr. Shibal Bhartiya from wherever you are, at home, in another city, or abroad. Scheduled video consultations and emergency teleconsults are both available, for a wide range of eye conditions. Dr. Bhartiya works in close partnership with your local doctor, ensuring your care is coordinated and continuous, wherever you are.

What Is a Teleconsultation?

A teleconsultation is a structured medical consultation conducted by video call or phone. It is not a substitute for an in-clinic examination when one is needed, but it is a highly effective way to assess symptoms, review reports and scans, give a second opinion, adjust medications, and plan next steps, often with the same rigour as an in-person visit.

Dr. Bhartiya conducts teleconsultations for patients across India and internationally, including those who have already undergone treatment elsewhere and want an independent expert review.

Your local doctor remains central to your care. Dr. Bhartiya works alongside them, providing specialist input that supports, not replaces, the relationship you already have.

Two Ways to Consult

🔴 Emergency Teleconsultation

For urgent eye symptoms: during clinic hours.

If you are experiencing a sudden or alarming eye symptom, WhatsApp or call Dr. Bhartiya’s clinic between 9 am and 2 pm, Monday to Saturday. Messages received during these hours are reviewed and responded to as quickly as possible.

Call or WhatsApp: +91 8882638735 | +91 981870069

Available: Monday to Saturday, 9 am – 2 pm

If your emergency is outside these hours, do not wait.

Go directly to the Marengo Asia Hospitals Emergency Department, Sector 56, Gurugram. The ophthalmology team there can assess you in person. Dr. Bhartiya can review your case and follow up with you as soon as possible, or the coming working morning, as required.

Symptoms that require emergency contact:

  • Sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes
  • New floaters, flashes of light, or a curtain across your vision (possible retinal detachment)
  • Eye injury: chemical splash, blunt trauma, or a foreign body in the eye
  • Severe eye pain with nausea or vomiting
  • Sudden double vision or drooping of an eyelid
  • Redness and pain in a red eye that is not improving
  • A child whose eye appears turned inward or outward suddenly
  • Any neurological symptom affecting vision — sudden blurring, field loss, or visual disturbance

How it works:

Send a WhatsApp message to +91 9818700269 stating your symptom and that you need an emergency consult. The clinic team will respond to triage your situation and connect you with Dr. Bhartiya as quickly as possible. In true vision-threatening emergencies, you may be directed to the nearest eye casualty first, your safety is the priority.

📅 Scheduled Teleconsultation

For planned consultations, report reviews, follow-ups, and second opinions.

Scheduled teleconsultations are conducted by video call at a pre-confirmed time. You receive a link in advance. The consultation typically lasts 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of your case.

To book a scheduled teleconsultation:

Call or WhatsApp: +91 88826 38735 Email: drshibalbhartiya@gmail.com

Please share your reports, scans, and prescriptions in advance so Dr. Bhartiya can review them before your call. This significantly improves the quality of the consultation.

Conditions Covered in Teleconsultation

Dr. Bhartiya sees patients across a broad range of eye conditions via teleconsultation. You do not need a referral.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is Dr. Bhartiya’s primary subspecialty. Teleconsultation is particularly well-suited for glaucoma patients, where reviewing visual field tests, OCT scans, IOP records, and medication history can be done thoroughly online.

Teleconsultation is available for:

  • New diagnosis of glaucoma — understanding your reports and what they mean
  • Glaucoma progression — whether your current treatment is working
  • Medication review — side effects, alternatives, and adherence questions
  • Post-operative follow-up after trabeculectomy, MIGS, or laser procedures
  • Suspected glaucoma — elevated IOP, suspicious optic nerves, or a family history
  • Glaucoma and pregnancy — planning medications safely
  • Glaucoma in children (suspected) — guidance on next steps

Second Opinion in Glaucoma and Eye Disease

A second opinion is not disloyalty to your doctor. It is sound medical practice — and in a disease like glaucoma, where every treatment decision is permanent and the stakes are your vision, it is often the most important step you can take.

Dr. Bhartiya offers structured second opinions for patients who:

  • Have been advised surgery and want to understand if it is truly necessary
  • Are not improving despite treatment
  • Have been recently diagnosed and want expert confirmation
  • Feel their concerns have not been fully addressed

Upload your reports and scans before the appointment. Dr. Bhartiya will review them and give you a clear, honest clinical assessment. Dr. Bhartiya collaborates with your treating doctor as needed, so your care remains connected and well-informed at every stage.

Dry Eye Disease

Dry eye is far more complex than most patients are told. Chronic symptoms of grittiness, burning, tearing, light sensitivity, and fluctuating vision often have treatable causes that are missed in a routine consultation.

Teleconsultation for dry eye is appropriate for:

  • Persistent dry eye symptoms not responding to standard drops
  • Dry eye after LASIK or cataract surgery
  • Meibomian gland dysfunction — understanding and managing it
  • Reviewing a treatment plan and making adjustments
  • Discussing advanced treatment options

Neuro-Ophthalmology

The eye is a window into the brain. Many neurological conditions first present with visual symptoms — double vision, field loss, drooping lids, optic nerve changes, or sudden visual disturbance.

Teleconsultation for neuro-ophthalmology is appropriate for:

  • Double vision (diplopia) — assessment and guidance
  • Optic neuritis — diagnosis, management, and monitoring
  • Papilloedema (swollen optic disc) — understanding urgency and next steps
  • Visual field loss — reviewing fields and understanding the pattern
  • Headaches with visual symptoms
  • Myasthenia gravis affecting the eyelid or eye movements
  • Review of MRI / MRA / MRV reports in the context of visual symptoms

The Marengo Asia International Institute of Neuro and Spine, of which Dr. Bhartiya is Programme Director, supports advanced neuro-ophthalmology investigations including MRI, MRA, MRV, carotid Doppler, video EEG, EMG, ERG, and a dedicated vertigo lab. In-person assessment can be arranged seamlessly if needed after a teleconsultation.

General Eye Care and Preventive Consultations

Teleconsultation is also appropriate for:

  • Adults over 40 wanting a baseline eye health assessment and understanding what tests they need
  • Patients with diabetes wanting to understand diabetic eye disease and when to get screened
  • Patients with a family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration wanting guidance on screening
  • Queries about glasses, contact lenses, and refractive error
  • Children with vision complaints — guidance on when an in-person exam is necessary
  • Reviewing eye health reports from a previous clinic visit

What to Prepare Before Your Teleconsultation

A well-prepared consultation saves time and produces better answers. Before your appointment, please have the following ready:

Reports to share in advance (WhatsApp or email):

  • Visual field test (Humphrey or Octopus) — all available printouts, not just the most recent
  • OCT of the optic nerve (RNFL) and/or macula
  • Intraocular pressure records with dates and times
  • Current eye drop prescriptions with dose and timing
  • Any previous eye surgery records or laser treatment summaries
  • Relevant systemic medications, especially steroids, blood pressure drugs, or neurological medications
  • MRI/MRA/MRV or other imaging reports if the consultation involves neuro-ophthalmology

During the call:

  • Join from a quiet, well-lit room
  • Have a torch or phone flashlight nearby, Dr. Bhartiya may ask you to illuminate your eye briefly
  • Have your reports accessible on a second device or in print
  • Have a pen and paper ready for notes

Who Can Benefit from a Teleconsultation?

Teleconsultation is especially valuable for:

Patients outside Gurgaon or Delhi NCR — those in smaller cities, towns, or rural areas who want access to fellowship-level glaucoma expertise without travelling.

International patients — including the Indian diaspora in the UK, USA, UAE, Singapore, Canada, and Australia who want an opinion from a specialist familiar with both global standards and Indian clinical contexts.

Patients who have already had surgery or laser and want an independent expert review of whether outcomes are on track.

Elderly patients or those with mobility limitations for whom travel to a clinic is difficult.

Caregivers consulting on behalf of a family member who cannot travel.

Patients anxious about a new diagnosis who want clarity before deciding on a treatment path.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Dr. Bhartiya prescribe medications during a teleconsultation?

Yes. Dr. Bhartiya can review your current medications and prescribe or adjust treatment where clinically appropriate. A digital prescription will be provided after the consultation.

Is a teleconsultation as good as an in-person visit?

For many consultations — particularly report reviews, second opinions, medication adjustments, and follow-ups — a teleconsultation is highly effective. Certain assessments, such as measuring intraocular pressure, examining the optic nerve in detail, or testing the visual field, require an in-person visit. Dr. Bhartiya will be transparent about when an in-person visit is necessary and will not recommend in-person investigation unless it is genuinely warranted.

How do I share my reports with Dr. Bhartiya before the call?

WhatsApp your reports to +91 88826 38735 at least 24 hours before your scheduled consultation. Please send clear photographs or scans — blurry images of reports cannot be reviewed accurately.

What platform is used for the video call?

The clinic uses standard video call platforms. You will receive a link and joining instructions after your appointment is confirmed. No special software is required — you can join from any smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. All patient information shared during a teleconsultation is treated with the same confidentiality as an in-clinic visit. Reports and clinical notes are not shared with any third party.

Can I have a teleconsultation if I am outside India?

Yes. Dr. Bhartiya sees international patients by teleconsultation. Please account for the time zone when booking. Payment for international teleconsultations can be arranged via bank transfer or UPI — the clinic team will guide you.

How do I book an emergency teleconsultation?

Do not wait to fill a form in an eye emergency. Call or WhatsApp +91 88826 38735 directly during working hours. State your symptoms clearly. The team will triage and respond as quickly as possible. However, after office hours, go directly to the Marengo Asia Hospitals Emergency Department, Sector 56, Gurugram, or the nearest hospital. The ophthalmology team there can assess you in person. Dr. Bhartiya can review your case and follow up with you the next working morning.

What does a teleconsultation cost?

Consultation fees are provided when you contact the clinic to book. Fees vary depending on the nature and duration of the consultation. The clinic team will confirm the fee and payment process before your appointment is confirmed. A routine teleconsultation costs Rs 1500, with a 10% discount for senior citizens. Dr Bhartiya also does complimentary teleconsultations for those who are unable to pay, if required.
